I recently went to a wedding reception of one of my good friends who also volunteered at an orphanage. She and her now husband met in Ghana at the orphanage they were working in and it was fun to see pictures and read about their experiences. Her husband said he went to volunteer to "do it for his heart." I've thought a lot about that and I think I have that mindset right now. Obviously my main reason for going is the kids. I love them so much. Even the kids I haven't met yet. But after being there once already, I am fully aware that those kids do much more for me than I could ever do for them. At least, that's how I feel. They are perfect. They need love and help developing, that's what we try to provide. But they are perfect, and I know I will always learn more from them than I can teach them. So I am preparing with the hope that my heart will change even more there and that I can be humble enough to change myself and my life because of those kids and the experiences I have there.
In lieu of the New Year, I am making a resolution to let those children change me and my heart. I can't wait!
